Ajax reportedly targeting Ter Stegen and Sommer for goalkeeping reinforcements
Ajax are without a first-choice goalkeeper after Czech stopper Vitezslav Jaros left the club to return to Liverpool following his loan spell, which was cut short by a torn ACL he suffered in February. Indonesian international Maarten Paes stepped in, but was only signed as a backup option in January.
After appointing former Girona manager Míchel as their new head coach, Ajax are reportedly seeking to add an experienced goalkeeper to the squad. According to transfer expert Nicoló Schira, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Yann Sommer top the list for the former UEFA Champions League winners.
Ter Stegen is said to have built a strong relationship with Míchel during their time at Girona, and Ajax have started gathering information on the German keeper's condition after the 34-year-old has struggled with injuries recently. Ter Stegen joined Girona on loan from FC Barcelona in January, but suffered a torn hamstring in February.
The German goalkeeper is contracted to Barcelona until the summer of 2028. It remains to be seen whether Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff is prepared to meet Ter Stegen's wage demands, with the German currently earning €15 million per year in Catalonia.
Yann Sommer, 37, is set to leave Inter when his contract expires this summer. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Friday that Ajax are in contact with the Swiss goalkeeper.
