AFCON officials probe disturbances following Algeria Nigeria encounter

The Confederation of African Football announced on Monday that it has initiated an inquiry and issued warnings about potential sanctions due to "possibly inappropriate conduct" when players confronted each other on the field after the Africa Cup of Nations quarter final between Algeria and Nigeria.

"CAF has submitted these issues to the disciplinary committee for review and requires suitable measures if those implicated are determined to have engaged in misconduct," the governing body for African football declared in an official release.

Frustrations erupted on the pitch following Saturdays match in Marrakesh, with Nigeria claiming a 2-0 victory through second half strikes from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.

Any resulting penalties might influence the Super Eagles preparations for their Wednesday semi final clash with Morocco.

That said, CAF indicated it is also examining events from Fridays quarter final between the host country and Cameroon.

Morocco secured a 2-0 win in Rabat, leaving Cameroons Indomitable Lions particularly displeased with the refereeing, notably the decision not to grant them a penalty after a foul on Manchester Uniteds Bryan Mbeumo in the second half.
