2026 FIFA World Cup Prize Money: How Much Will Each Team Earn in the USA, Canada and Mexico

A total of 48 teams are set to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the USA, Canada and Mexico. This expansion brings more matches, greater revenue, and a significantly larger prize fund.

Moreover, 78 of the 104 matches, including the final at MetLife Stadium on 19 July, will take place in the USA, the world's largest economy. Consequently, FIFA approved a record financial contribution of $727 million in December 2025, of which $665 million is earmarked for prize money.

This represents a 50 percent increase in the prize fund compared to the 2022 tournament in Qatar, where the total was $440 million. How much each team earns across the USA, Canada and Mexico will depend on their progress in the competition. Below is a quick breakdown of the prize money by round for the 2026 World Cup:

2026 FIFA World Cup Prize Money Per Round

- Champions: $50 million

- Runners-up: $33 million

- Third place: $29 million

- Fourth place: $27 million

- 5th to 8th place (quarter-finalists): $19 million

- 9th to 16th place (round of 16 teams): $15 million

- 17th to 32nd place (round of 32 teams): $11 million

- 33rd to 48th place (eliminated in the group stage): $9 million

It is worth noting that each team receives an additional $1.5 million for preparation costs, meaning the minimum guaranteed sum for every participating nation is $10.5 million.

The 2026 World Cup winners will earn $8 million more in prize money than the 2022 champions did. Argentina took home $42 million in Qatar after defeating France on penalties in the final, whereas the 2026 champions will get $50 million.

Below is the breakdown of how the prize money for the 2026 World Cup has increased per round:

- Champions: $8 million increase (from $42 million to $50 million)

- Runners-up: $3 million increase (from $30 million to $33 million)
