About Saudi Super Cup

History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Saudi Super Cup is an annual club competition supervised by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. The competition was first played back in 2013, where the winners of the Saudi Pro League and the King Cup would fight for the title. Nonetheless, the SAFF decided to include the runners-up of those tournaments to have four teams in the competition from 2022 onwards.

The format of the competition pairs up the winner of the Saudi Pro League against the runners-up from the King Cup, while the other fixture features the winning team from the most recent King Cup against the runners-up from the league. If any of the games ends in a draw, penalties are taken to determine the winner. The final match also adds extra time if needed.

Teams such as Al Ahli, Al Nassr, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli have been able to win this title, but the honor of winning the first edition went to Al Fateh, who defeated Al Ittihad 3-2 after extra time.
