About Coppa Italia Primavera

History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Coppa Italia Primavera, officially known as the Primavera TIMVISION Cup for sponsorship reasons, is an Italian knockout cup tournament for youth football teams. Founded in 1972, it is organized by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and typically runs from August/September to April/May.

Clubs from Campionato Primavera 1 and Campionato Primavera 2 participated in this competition. Due to the growth of those two leagues, the number of Coppa Italia Primavera entrants has increased over the years, with 42 teams taking part in 2017-18 (16 from Primavera 1 and 26 from Primavera 2), 39 in 2018-19 (16+23), 50 in 2022-23 (18+32), and 52 in 2025-26 (20+32).

The tournament follows a single-elimination format with two preliminary rounds, a round of 32, two rounds of 16, a quarterfinal, a semifinal, and a final. The reigning champion and the top seven teams from the previous Campionato Primavera 1 season are seeded and receive byes to the second round of 16.

Inter Milan dominated the early years, winning all but two of the first six editions. Roma was the first to secure back-to-back titles in 1973-74 and 1974-75, while Inter became the first to win three consecutive trophies from 1975 to 1978. Notably, Fiorentina achieved a historic four consecutive championships from 2018 to 2022 while Torino won six titles out of eight from 1982-83 to 1989-90.
