About Club Friendly
History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
Club friendlies are matches arranged to be played between club teams in a competitive manner but with no impact on team classification or ranking coefficients. Friendly matches usually occur during pre-season training for domestic league and tournament level preparation.
Soccer clubs often play a handful of friendly matches before the start of their official domestic league season to get the squad in good fitness, prepare the team with new training methods, and develop game strategy and tactics.
Friendly matches are also used to promote the club to fans, usually in another country, in the form of an international tour. Many of the biggest clubs, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City, typically plan a pre-season tour in countries and regions where there is high fan demand to watch them play live. The pre-season tours help the club generate additional revenue from ticket sales, merchandising and international media broadcast deals.
