About Primera Division
History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
Primera División de Fútbol de El Salvador -- the Primera Division, in short -- is the first division league in El Salvador. This top-flight is also known as La Primera or la Liga Mayor and has been running since 1969. The tournament follows the South American football league system with the season being split into two parts: the Apertura and the Clausura. The Apertura takes place from August to December while the Clausura is held from February to July.
