About Campeonato Alagoano

The Campeonato Alagoano is the top football category from the Brazilian state of Alagoas. The competition has been organized by the Federacao Alagoense de Futebol since 1927, the year when the first edition of the championship took place.
The Campeonato Alagoano is divided into a first round and a final round. The first round sees all teams facing each other once, leading the top four teams to the final round. There, these clubs play home-and-away ties between each other, with the highest seed hosting the return leg in each semi-final and the title series.
The initial table determines the team that is relegated after the regular season. The team with the lowest points after seven games gets dropped to the Second Division of the Alagoas Football Championship.
One of the teams with the most Campeonato Alagoano titles is CSA, short for Centro Sportivo Alagoano. This team is also one of the most popular in the region, along with their bitter rivals, CRB (Clube de Regatas Brasil), who won the first edition of the Campeonato Alagoano.
The competition also grants access to the Copa do Brasil. To know the name of the team that will represent the league, there will be a playoff between the third-ranked team and the Copa Alagoas. The winner after two legs will enter that competition.
