Veteran Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa Set to Rejoin Mexico Squad for Pre-World Cup Matches

Now aged 40, Ochoa who is with Limassol in Cyprus hopes to take part in his sixth World Cup having competed in five consecutive tournaments from 2006 up to the latest event in Qatar.

Ochoa was last summoned in May 2025 for the Gold Cup team but remained unused during that competition.

The Mexico lineup also includes the debut appearance of Spanish born midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo who transferred to LaLigas Real Betis in February following a five year stint at Club America in Mexico.

Mexico faces Portugal on March 28 at the newly refurbished Azteca Stadium in Mexico City which reopens after World Cup improvements then takes on Belgium three days later at Soldier Field in Chicago.

As co host of the World Cup with the United States and Canada Mexico begins its group stage in A against South Africa in the tournaments opening fixture on June 11.
