Spanish FA frees Yamal from World Cup qualifiers after surprise medical intervention

The Spanish football association (RFEF) has excused Lamine Yamal from the national team for their forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures, following medical treatment, an announcement on Tuesday confirmed.

The association's healthcare experts voiced their astonishment and frustration upon finding out on Monday that the 18 year old had received an intrusive radiofrequency treatment for his pubic area issues earlier that day, as per the Tuesday declaration.

Yamal was expected to join the international squad on Monday for the initial training session.

This intervention occurred without any advance notice to the team doctors, who became aware of the facts only from a document obtained late Monday evening, the release explained.

The advised healing period post such a treatment spans seven to ten days, stated the RFEF, leading them to excuse the player from the present group to focus on his health, protection and overall welfare.

The young Barcelona talent has been dealing with groin troubles over recent weeks, causing him to sit out Spains previous qualifying games in October.

Spain lead Group E with a flawless win rate from four matches, positioning them to secure qualification for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico across the upcoming pair of fixtures.

They face Georgia in Tbilisi this Saturday, prior to hosting Turkey in Seville on November 18.
