Orlando Pirates announce four new recruits as key striker departs the club

Pirates have secured the services of midfielder Mthetheleli Mthiyane (Stellenbosch FC), centre-back Sbangani Zulu (Richards Bay), as well as winger Bohale Ngwato and Zambian international forward Ghampani Lungu (both Siwelele).

Lungu, aged 27, has been in South Africa since 2018, initially playing for SuperSport United before their status was sold to the owners of Siwelele last season.

He made 212 appearances for the teams, scoring 29 goals, including featuring in the CAF Confederation Cup for SuperSport.

Mthiyane, aged 25, joined Stellenbosch from Milford FC last season and made an immediate impact in his first campaign in the top flight. He made 38 appearances for the Winelands club, scoring a single goal.

The 20-year-old Ngwato was promoted from the youth ranks at Siwelele last season and made 12 appearances, scoring once.

Zulu rose to prominence at Royal AM but moved to Richards Bay in April 2025 following the collapse of that club. He made 25 appearances for the latter last season, without finding the net.

Pirates will be competing in the CAF Champions League again this coming season after ending Mamelodi Sundowns' eight-year reign as South African champions.

Meanwhile, Pirates also confirmed the departure of leading forward Tshegofatso Mabasa by mutual consent at the end of his contract.

The club also confirmed the expected exits of Sipho Mbule, Thabiso Lebitso, Bandile Shandu, Gilberto and Karim Kimvuidi.
