Moleiro clinches thrilling late victory for Villarreal over Real Sociedad

Alberto Moleiro boosted Villarreal into a shared second place in La Liga on Sunday by scoring a winner in added time during their 3-2 triumph against Real Sociedad.

The midfielder struck twice after the interval in an exciting encounter in San Sebastian, propelling his side ahead of Atletico Madrid and matching Real Madrid on points ahead of their upcoming match against Girona.

The Yellow Submarine notched up their fifth straight league success, keeping them deeply involved in the race for the Spanish crown.

Ayoze Perez put the away team in front during the middle of the opening period and assisted Moleiro for Villarreal's next goal shortly after halftime.

Real Sociedad mounted a fierce comeback, with Carlos Soler finding the net around the 60th minute.

The home team intensified their efforts and equalised late on courtesy of an impressive free-kick from Ander Barrenetxea.

Yet Moleiro delivered the decisive blow, rifling in during the 95th minute to preserve his squads drive forward.

The previous day, title holders Barcelona overcame Alaves 3-2 to claim the summit, prior to Madrids showdown with Catalan underdogs Girona.
