Liverpool humbled again as Arsenal down Bayern in Champions League

Liverpool endured a humiliating 4-1 loss in the Champions League at Anfield against PSV Eindhoven, adding further strain on manager Arne Slot, whereas Arsenal halted Bayern Munich's perfect record this season with a decisive victory on Wednesday.

Defending champions PSG overcame Tottenham in a thrilling eight-goal encounter at the Parc des Princes, and Kylian Mbappe netted four goals in a single Champions League game for the first time, helping Real Madrid to a 4-3 triumph over Olympiacos.

The English champions, already under fire, suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches across all competitions, collapsing against PSV.

Liverpool fell behind in the sixth minute when Virgil van Dijk inexplicably blocked the ball with his hand while protesting a foul from a corner, allowing Ivan Perisic to convert the penalty into the bottom corner.

Slot's faltering team responded swiftly, with Dominik Szoboszlai finishing after PSV keeper Matej Kovar pushed away Cody Gakpo's effort.

PSV surged forward after the break and regained the lead as Mauro Junior's superb pass was deftly directed in by Guus Til.

The home side's recent embarrassment, following a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at home last weekend, was sealed when Couhaib Driouech capitalised twice on disastrous defending to score in the closing stages.

Premier League frontrunners Arsenal preserved their flawless record in the tournament this term by defeating Bayern 3-1, climbing above the German side to claim the top position in the 36-team standings.

Bayern trailed at the Emirates from the 22nd minute, Jurrien Timber glancing Bukayo Saka's corner beyond a scrambling Manuel Neuer.

However, 17-year-old Lennart Karl became the initial scorer against Arsenal in this season's Champions League, lashing in from a fine volleyed assist by Serge Gnabry.

Noni Madueke restored Arsenal's advantage in the 69th minute, and Gabriel Martinelli slotted home into an unguarded goal after Neuer dashed out and lost a foot race near the centre circle.

"It is a tremendous statement, yet we recognise the effort invested," Madueke remarked to TNT Sports. "We enter these matches fully confident of victory."

Vitinha sparks PSG turnaround

PSG recovered from their earlier defeat to Bayern this month, with Vitinha claiming a hat-trick in a 5-3 win against Tottenham.

Tottenham, mirroring their UEFA Super Cup performance against PSG in August, opened the scoring as Richarlison headed in at close range to cap a slick team effort.

The hosts levelled just before half-time via Vitinha's powerful long-range shot from a short corner play.

PSG trailed once more barely five minutes into the second half, Randal Kolo Muani blasting in a volley for his debut Tottenham goal since his loan move from the French powerhouse.

Luis Enrique's squad hit back promptly, Vitinha bending in another exquisite effort from outside the area, before Fabian Ruiz gave them the lead for the first time after Cristian Romero's error.

Willian Pacho seemed to clinch the match, but Kolo Muani fired in to rekindle Tottenham's hopes against his parent club.

PSG locked in the win with a Vitinha spot-kick in the 76th minute.

Mbappe's four-goal haul

Mbappe dominated proceedings as Real Madrid rose to fifth in the table and ended a three-match barren run.

Olympiacos shocked with an early goal, Chiquinho powering a shot beyond deputy Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin after a swift exchange.

Mbappe equalised midway through the opening period and added his second two minutes on, nodding Arda Guler's delivery into the far corner.

He notched his fifth Champions League hat-trick by bursting through to finish.

Mehdi Taremi reduced the arrears for the Greeks soon after the restart, but Mbappe swiftly re-established Real's two-goal cushion.

Olympiacos' Ayoub El Kaabi narrowed the gap again, yet the 15-time European kings clung on.

Last term's runners-up Inter Milan lost a chance to reach second place, as Jose Maria Gimenez's stoppage-time strike gifted Atletico Madrid a 2-1 success at the Metropolitano.

Atalanta rose to 10th with a commanding 3-0 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, while David Luiz found the net as Pafos drew 2-2 with Monaco in Cyprus.

FC Copenhagen withstood a late rally from Kairat Almaty to secure their inaugural win, prevailing 3-2 in Denmark.
