Everton Forward Barry Alleges Friends Faced Assault Amid Arsenal Loss
Authorities are probing assertions from Everton forward Thierno Barry that his companions were "assaulted" while his team suffered a 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Saturday.
The French player, introduced as a substitute in the second half, shared footage on Instagram showing a brawl erupting among spectators.
"Such conduct is unacceptable in any stadium. I invited my friends to savour the match, yet it was spoiled by a handful of thoughtless individuals," Barry stated in the caption accompanying the clip.
"Football ought to be an environment where all feel secure and valued. This sort of mindset has no role in the sport and is utterly unacceptable.
"My companions and those targeted received assistance from Arsenal's security team and officers due to concerns over potential backlash from our fans."
Merseyside Police noted they are "cognisant of footage spreading online depicting a clash in the visiting supporters area" and are collaborating with the Metropolitan Police on the inquiry.
Arsenal secured victory with a pair of goals in the closing stages, edging closer to their first Premier League crown in over two decades.
