USA hosts reveal World Cup team with unexpected Reyna inclusion
Borussia Monchengladbach's creative midfielder Reyna featured as a substitute in the USA's March friendlies against Belgium and Portugal, having caught Pochettino's eye during last November's international fixtures.
Reyna has seen limited action at club level this year, with just eight substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Monchengladbach.
Despite this, the 23 year old remains among the most technically skilled attacking options for Pochettino as the Argentine manager gears up for the USA's World Cup Group D debut against Paraguay in Los Angeles on June 12.
The USA find themselves in Group D alongside Australia, Paraguay, and Turkey.
Reyna was embroiled in controversy during the previous World Cup in Doha, when post tournament revelations showed he nearly faced expulsion from the squad by former coach Berhalter due to training attitude issues.
This incident prompted Reyna's mother to disclose a 1991 physical altercation involving Berhalter and his then girlfriend, now wife, leading to a US Soccer investigation.
Pochettino unveiled his squad during a roster announcement event in New York on Tuesday.
The event held few surprises, with details of Pochettino's selections having circulated in US media reports in the days preceding the official announcement.
As anticipated, European based players dominate Pochettino's selection, featuring AC Milan's Christian Pulisic, Juventus's Weston McKennie, Monaco's Folarin Balogun, alongside Premier League talents Tyler Adams (Bournemouth), Brenden Aaronson (Leeds), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace) and Antonee Robinson (Fulham).
The roster also includes Major League Soccer representatives, notably Sebastian Berhalter, son of the former coach, who plays midfield for Vancouver Whitecaps.
