Jacob Poulsen named Danish Coach of the Year after leading AGF to first title in 40 years
All the coaching colleagues in Danish football have voted Jakob Poulsen in first place.
"I was very surprised when the staff and the squad said some very nice words at a meeting that I thought was going to be about something else. It was only when I got the trophy in my hand that it really dawned on me. It is very big for me and a fantastic honor", says Jakob Poulsen to the FA's website
He was presented with the trophy by AGF's winger Gift Links, surrounded by the rest of the squad, staff, and colleagues at Fredensvang.
"It is not just me who has performed well last season. It is the whole team, the players, and my talented staff. What we have achieved together as a group and with the whole club behind us has a big part in this award", says the AGF coach.
Niels Frederiksen, who is coach of Polish Lech Poznan, who won the Polish championships, was voted in second place. Thomas Norgaard, who was head coach of Sonderjyske last season but has since moved to Brondby, finished in third place.
Jesper Sorensen, who is coach of the MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps, came in fourth ahead of FC Midtjylland coach Mike Tullberg in fifth place.
Until now, Coach of the Year has been chosen based on the calendar year, but as a new feature, it is now based on the season.
The award is determined by a vote among all coaches in the top Danish divisions for women and men, active Danish coaches abroad, and the men's, women's, and U21 national team coaches.
